F.A.Q.

...some answers...

1) Are you going all by yourself?

For some parts of the trip. In Australia, I'll be traveling with a long-time school friend. I also have a companion for Asia.

2) How are you going to pay for the trip?

Any way I can. I'm starting with no money, so I hope sponsors will step in to get the trip off the ground. I'm currently looking for corporate sponsors. (Interested?)

3) Where will you stay?

I plan on sleeping in a tent as much as possible. There are two reasons for this:

a) I like camping

b) I lack money

Aside from the tent, I'll stay in hostels, hotels, and homes. Some kind people have already offered to house me in Europe and Asia, which will be a great change of pace.

4) Do you have a support car or film crew following you?

No.

5) What will you eat?

What everyone else does. I'll cook meals with a portable stove and eat at restaurants throughout the trip.

6) How far are you biking each day?

This depends greatly on weather, road conditions, elevation change, etc... On flat, paved surfaces (such as in Australia) I hope to average over a hundred miles per day. On mountainous dirt roads, I might only travel 20 miles or less.

7) How are you going to carry all your belongings?

I'll be carrying panniers, which are bags meant to be used on a bicycle. They fit on racks over your front and rear wheels. I'll post a picture once I get my bike and panniers.

8) What's your inspiration?

I have many. I think my initial inspiration was Goran Kropp, the Swedish adventurer who biked from Stockholm to Everest, soloed it, and biked back home. Read his book Ultimate High: My Everest Odyssey. He passed away on Sept. 30, 2002 in a climbing accident.

I'll write more about inspiration later.

These are but a sampling of the most common questions I've been asked about the trip. I'll add mroe later. If you have a question, please send me an email.
